Plot[]
Andy and Mike are two young men hanging out in the park. Mike proposes that they go to his home to play on his new video game console, when he notices that Andy is scrolling on Instagram, and sees that Andrew is viewing the Instagram stories of Sofia, his ex-girlfriend, with whom he broke up with six months prior. Mike sighs and urges Andy to get over his breakup, before they spot Sofia walking by with her new boyfriend. At that instant, Michael realizes that the whole reason why Andrew wanted to hang out at the park was to spy on Sofia. Andy jealously calls Sofia's new boyfriend a chump, not willing to let go of the past.
Excitedly, Andy runs up to Sofia and gives her a hug. She is surprised to see him, and they introduce their friends, before they quickly part. Mike urges Andy to get over his relationship breakup and move on. However, Andy refuses.
The next day, Sofia and Dale are hanging out at the shopping mall. Sofia goes to order drinks, before Andy goes up and greets Dale. He tells Dale that they used to hang out at the mall all the time, before dropping Sofia's butterfly earrings in Dale's hand. Attempting to cause tension in the relationship, Andy lies and tells Dale that Sofia had left those earrings at his home just a few days ago. Dale instantly reacts with unease, before Andy quickly leaves the scene. When Sofia comes back, Dale confronts her and questions her about what Andy said.
Determined to win back Sofia, Andy moves onto the next step. He decides to drive to a local gym where Dale works. Mike, sitting in the passenger seat, is uneasy, and urges Andy to move on. Andy, however, is adamant about winning back Sofia, and insists that she and Dale do not belong together, not willing to respect Sofia's wishes. He orders Mike to film the interaction with a phone, before going up to Dale to greet him.
This time, however, Dale is exasperated at seeing Andy once again, asking him he again and what he wants by showing him hard feelings, Andy asking him why the hard feeling and telling him he was clearing the air. Dale told him to look as whatever happened between Andy and Sofia is over now and telling him there's no reason to be in communication anymore. Andy insults and belittles him, attempting to provoke Dale into hitting him. Enraged, Dale grabs Andy by the collar of his shirt and raises his fist, and Andy goads him into hitting him. Dale decides against it and lets go, telling Andy to stay away from him and Sofia. Andy replies, "You tell Sofia to stay away from me!"
Back at the car, Mike is filming, and when Andy returns, Michael questions his intent. As a result, Andy decides to edit the footage, but Mike shakes his head, warning Andy about the moral of the story, "The truth always comes out, one way or another."
That evening, Andy decides to pay Sofia a visit at her apartment. Seeing Andy with a black eye and a bruise on his face, Sofia is shocked and horrified. Andy tells Sofia that Dale had hit him, and shows her an edited video of their interaction in the parking lot. Sofia is horrified, and tells Andy that she had been crying because she and Dale had been arguing a lot, and that Dale has changed significantly, unaware that Andy was doing all the dirty work. She allows Andrew to take an ice pack, before Andy suggests that they hang out at his apartment.
After having a meal, Andy uses the restroom. Sofia asks if Andy could allow her to grab a sweatshirt, as she was feeling cold. Andy allows her to enter his bedroom, where she finds that it is filled with photos of her. This raises her suspicions, before she finds Andy’s laptop on the floor. On the screen is the original, unedited video of Andy’s confrontation with Dale in the parking lot earlier that day and realizes Dale never hit Andy. After watching the entire video, Sofia is shocked and infuriated, before she finds makeup on the floor and sees that Andrew had used dark red, explaining everything.
When Andy gets out of the restroom and back onto the couch, Sofia offers to use a cold, wet towel to help tend to his "black eye". Andy is reluctant, but after Sofia keeps pestering, he relents. Sofia leans forward and uses the wet towel to wipe his "black eye", before she angrily demands that he explains why the towel is stained. She then reveals that she found the makeup in his bedroom shocked she went through his stuff, she tells him don’t try to turn this around on her and tells him she saw the video of his confrontation with Dale, furiously reprimanding him for having lied to her. Andy tries to explain but Sofia doesn’t want to hear it.
Sofia gets up to leave, before Andy stops her, telling her that she is not over with him. Sofia scoffs, and reminds him of the moral of the story, "The truth always comes out, one way or another."
Just then, there is a knock at the door. Sofia opens, and standing in the doorway is nobody other than Dale. Sofia bids farewell to Andy and tells him to have a good life. Andy calls her "butterfly" in a last attempt to win her over, but she replies, "I am not your butterfly anymore", before giving him back the butterfly necklace he had given her months ago and says she is Dale's butterfly. Then, Dale and Sofia smile at each other and glare at Andrew before going back to their apartment. Andy holds Sofia's butterfly necklace unhappily, feeling defeated for his actions.
