Number cards (80 in deck, 20 of each color)
Cards with a number from 0 to 9. Each number appears twice in a color, and there are four colors (red, green, blue, yellow).
Action cards
- Draw Two card (8 in deck, 2 of each color): The next player has to draw two cards and has to skip a turn.
- Skip card (8 in deck, 2 of each color): The next player has to skip a turn.
- Reverse card (8 in deck, 2 of each color): The playing direction is reversed.
Draw Two, Skip and Reverse are referred to as action cards.
Wild cards
- Wild card (4 in deck): Can be played on any card, and allows to choose the color to play.
- Wild Draw Four card (4 in deck): Can be played on any card, but only when no other cards can be played. Allows to choose the color that has to be played. The next player has to draw four cards.
Goal
The goal in UNO is to get rid of your cards by matching color or number with the card on the table. The first player that gets rid of all their cards wins the round.
Deal
At the start of a round each player is dealt 7 cards, one at a time. The remaining cards are placed face-down in the middle of the table. The top card is flipped and is the start of the discard pile.
Gameplay
The player to the left of the dealer starts. The playing direction at the start of the game is clockwise, but it can be changed during the game with the Reverse Card.
During a turn, a player has three options:
- Play a card that matches the top card in the discard pile in terms of color, number, or symbol.
- Play a Wild card or a Wild Draw Four card.
- Draw the top card from the deck by pressing the face-down stack in the middle of the table. If the drawn card can be played, the player is allowed to play it immediately. No other card can be played.
When you have only one card left, you have to press the 1 Button to be able to finish the game in the next round. If you don’t press this button, your opponents can do it instead and you will have to draw two cards.
Above the 1 Button there is a little square indicating the current color of play.
Scoring
The first player that gets rid of their last card wins the round. He scores points based on the cards that are held by the other players at the end of the round:
- Number cards: face value
- Draw Two card, Skip card and Reverse card: 20 points
- Wild card and Wild Draw Four card: 50 points
